While working on the character Estahl at Avalon Corp I designed and made this large two handed sword and its sheath to go with the character. I wanted to do something unique to holster this weapon to accommodate animation needs, ground it in a magical fantasy lightly stylized world, and to make sure the weapon was still featured rather than hidden away in a bulky large scabbard. As this was going to be on a 3rd person character's back and feature prominently and consistently, it was deserving an extra dose of attention.

For the pommel, I wanted something visually large to help balance the weight and visual weight of the weapon atop an extra long double sectioned handle. I also wanted to toss a nod to the concept of Avalon by utilizing an A shape, and keep it harmonious with the curves present elsewhere in the design. Its two bent and angled shapes back to back that fuse to the interior forged core of metal running from pommel to hilt, the sections of which are inset with wood and bound with leather. I felt this was a pleasing mixture to provide shape and material contrast across an abnormally long handle
